MISSION EMPHASES FOR MARCH: JIM LEWIS SCHOLARSHIP AND KRISTA GIVENS, MISSIONARY TO HAMBURG GERMANY
The Ridgecrest United Methodist Foundation makes this scholarship available every year to honor Jim Lewis. He was a great contributor to our church, and a great builder of the Ridgecrest community. Please give generously to this worthwhile cause. Please make your check out to RUMC Foundation, and include "Jim Lewis" on the memo line. Thank You.
The Ridgecrest United Methodist Church, with encouragement from the Missions Committee and approval from our Administrative Council, has entered into a covenant relationship with Dr. Givens to support her work in Germany. Dr. Krista Givens is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. She serves as pastor of the International United Methodist Church in Hamburg, Germany. Please help support her ministry.
Food fOR the Month
For the month of March we are asking for spaghetti sauce and noodles. Of course other items are welcome as well. Some of the items that are always needed for the food pantry are: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables, soup, top ramen, and tuna. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex and they will be taken to the Salvation Army.
Lenten Soup Suppers
This year we will continue the tradition of having a meal together each Wednesday during Lent, beginning this Wednesday, March 16 and continue for the remainder of Lent. We will ask various members of the congregation to sign up to provide a crockpot of soup, bread, or a salad. There will be no dessert, since Lent is typically a time of sacrifice. We would appreciate people bringing their own table service as we are trying to be gentle on the environment but bowls and flatware will be available.
The meal will begin at 6:00 pm, and after we have eaten, there will be a devotion provided by a different person each week. We should be finished shortly after 7:00 pm. There will be no charge for the meal but there will be a basket for donations. Any money collected will be used to feed the hungry in our own community. It will be divided between the Living Bread Ministry and a fund to support the holiday baskets our church provides each year. We don’t plan for this to be a late evening, and we encourage families to bring their children.
We look forward to sharing these times of fellowship with you during Lent.
CHURCH PHONE BOOK
It’s time for a new edition of our Church Phone Book. Please check the tables out in front for your name and correct spelling, mailing and home addresses, phone numbers (work, home and/or cell), email addresses, children’s names, birthdays and anniversaries. If you're not listed but would like to be, please let it be known by filling out the form at the side.
