MISSION EMPHASES FOR AUGUST: Methodist Missionary Krista Givens and The Literacy Council
The Ridgecrest United Methodist Church, with encouragement from the Missions Committee and approval from the Administrative Council, has entered into a covenant relationship with Dr. Givens to support her work in Germany.
Dr. Krista Givens is a Methodist missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She serves as pastor of the International United Methodist Church in Hamburg, Germany. Previously, Krista served as the Pastor at Westchester UMC in Los Angeles. She was also Associate Pastor at Kailua UMC in Kailua, HI, and Director of Children and Youth Ministries at Claremont UMC. A native of California, the Rev. Dr. Krista S. Givens attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. Her Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry in Ethics degrees were earned at Claremont School of Theology. Please give generously to help support her work.
The Literacy Council is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping people learn to read, write and speak English. Dr. Laubach once said, “You must learn to love people, not for what they are now, but for what you know you can help them become.” Please give generously to this worthwhile cause.
FOOD FOR THE MONTH
The Missions Committee has designated canned fruit as the item of the month for August. The Salvation Army is always in need of other items such as: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables, soup, top ramen, and tuna. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex, and they will be taken to the Living Bread Ministry food mission.
