MISSION EMPHASES FOR AUGUST: Methodist Missionary Krista Givens and The Literacy Council
The Ridgecrest United Methodist Church, with encouragement from the Missions Committee and approval from the Administrative Council, has entered into a covenant relationship with Dr. Givens to support her work in Germany.
Dr. Krista Givens is a Methodist missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She serves as pastor of the International United Methodist Church in Hamburg, Germany. Previously, Krista served as the Pastor at Westchester UMC in Los Angeles. She was also Associate Pastor at Kailua UMC in Kailua, HI, and Director of Children and Youth Ministries at Claremont UMC. A native of California, the Rev. Dr. Krista S. Givens attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. Her Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry in Ethics degrees were earned at Claremont School of Theology. Please give generously to help support her work.
The Literacy Council is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping people learn to read, write and speak English. Dr. Laubach once said, “You must learn to love people, not for what they are now, but for what you know you can help them become.” Please give generously to this worthwhile cause.
FOOD FOR THE MONTH
The Missions Committee has designated canned fruit as the item of the month for August. The Salvation Army is always in need of other items such as: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables, soup, top ramen, and tuna. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex, and they will be taken to the Living Bread Ministry food mission.
Church CleanUp Day
It’s
that time of year again where our facilities need your help. On Saturday,
September 3, after the Men’s Breakfast, we are meeting for some much-needed
cleaning. We have jobs inside and out, light and heavy, from cleaning to
painting and everything in-between. And we guarantee to have you home by lunchtime!
Come join us for our morning fellowship, and share your talents to help keep
our facilities beautiful! If you have any questions, please call Joe Hansen.
Hope to see you there!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION SEPTEMBER 11
The United Methodist Women will be celebrating everyone’s birthday on Sunday, September 11, after the 8:00 and 10:30 services. It will be a fund raiser for missions that UMW supports, so the cost will be $.05 for each year young you are, or you can make a donation of $5.00, if you don't wish to reveal how young you really are!! If you would like to make a cake for the birthday celebration, please contact Terry Ratcliff. We need at least 12 cakes, one decorated for each month of the year. We need cake bakers, so please contact Terry!!
