MISSION EMPHASES FOR SEPTEMBER: RELAY FOR LIFE

AND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

RUMC has a Relay for Life team—Team United! This 24-hour Relay is set for the weekend of Saturday, October 1st at the Cerro Coso College Track beginning at 9:00am. RUMC is again a proud sponsor of this event. Since we are a sponsor, there is no additional registration fee for walkers on our team. Your donations are still welcome! Please make your checks payable to RUMC with "Relay for Life" in the memo line. 100% of your donation will be given to the ACS to continue to fight against cancer. Thank you for being a part of this exciting fundraiser for the American Cancer Society by praying for the event, walking an hour (or more!) at the relay. For more information or to sign up, see your co-captains Laura Miller or Amy Ochoa.

RUMC is also proud to be the first congregation in the Indian Wells Valley to raise enough money to construct a complete Habitat home, and contribute many man hours and lunches for work crews. We all hope to see Habitat for Humanity continue to prosper and build homes for the needy. Remember that Habitat for Humanity is Christian-based and non-profit.  All money invested in Habitat will continue to build new homes as the partner families pay off their mortgages. Habitat for Humanity deserves our continued miSsion support.

FOOD FOR THE MONTH

The Missions Committee has designated canned soup as the item of the month for September; however, at this time the Salvation Army is in need of pork and beans as well as chili. Other items such as: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables, and tuna are always welcome. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex, and they will be taken to the Living Bread Ministry food mission.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION TODAY

The United Methodist Women will be celebrating everyone’s birthday today after the 8:00 and 10:30 services. Every month will be represented. It is a fund raiser for missions that UMW supports, so the cost will be $.05 for each year young you are, or you can make a donation of $5.00, if you don't wish to reveal how young you really are.

TEAM UNITED IS LOOKING FOR WALKERS

The American Cancer Society's 24-hour Relay for Life will be held Saturday, October 1 beginning at 9:00 am and ending Sunday the 2nd at 9:00 am.  People of RUMC are encouraged to come and walk an hour slot for our team, TEAM UNITED.  Since we are an official sponsor of the Relay, no individual walking fee is needed.  Please see Amy Ochoa to sign up.

YOUTH GROUPS BEGIN TONIGHT

Middle school and high school youth groups begin meeting regularly tonight after a summer of combined pool parties. Please send your youth to their respective groups this afternoon for our fall kick-off!

Youth HorseBACK RIDING TRIP DEADLINE

Today is the last day for youth to turn in their permission slips for the horseback riding trip, which is next Saturday the 17th. Extra slips are in the narthex.  For more details, contact Amy.
