MISSION EMPHASES FOR SEPTEMBER: RELAY FOR LIFE
AND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
RUMC has a Relay for Life team—Team United! This 24-hour Relay is set for the weekend of Saturday, October 1st at the Cerro Coso College Track beginning at 9:00 am. RUMC is again a proud sponsor of this event. Since we are a sponsor, there is no additional registration fee for walkers on our team. Your donations are still welcome! Please make your checks payable to RUMC with "Relay for Life" in the memo line. 100% of your donation will be given to the ACS to continue to fight against cancer. Thank you for being a part of this exciting fundraiser for the American Cancer Society by praying for the event, walking an hour (or more!) at the relay. For more information or to sign up, see your co-captains Laura Miller or Amy Ochoa.
RUMC is also proud to be the first congregation in the Indian Wells Valley to raise enough money to construct a complete Habitat home, and contribute many person-hours and meals for work crews. We expect Habitat for Humanity to continue to prosper and build homes for the needy. Remember that Habitat for Humanity is Christian-based and non-profit. All money invested in Habitat will continue to build new homes as the partner families pay off their mortgages. Habitat for Humanity deserves our continued strong missional support.
FOOD FOR THE MONTH
The Missions Committee has designated canned soup as the item of the month for September; however, at this time the Salvation Army is in need of pork and beans as well
as chili. Other items such as: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables and tuna are always welcome. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex, and they will be taken to the Living Bread Ministry food mission.
Relay for Life Next Weekend
The American Cancer
Society's Relay for Life will take place next Saturday and Sunday at the Cerro
Coso College Track. TEAM UNITED will be camped out near the far west end of the
track by the goal posts. All walkers for TEAM UNITED are to check in at our
campsite before starting your hour walking time. Youth who are spending the
night on the track with Amy must arrive at our site at 7:30 pm for check in. Please
bring warm clothes and sleeping bags upon arrival.
COMMITTEE ON RELIEF HORN OF AFRICA CRISIS
The famine crisis in the Horn of Africa, deepened by civil strife and the worst drought in decades, is impacting 11 to 12 million people in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti. Your gift to UMCOR Advance #982450 helps hunger relief efforts when you earmark your check “Horn of Africa Crisis.” So far, $1,125.00 has been contributed.

FELLOWSHIP TIME
Each Sunday following the 8:00 am worship, everyone is invited to stay for refreshments and fellowship time outside the Narthex. In addition, every Sunday following the 10:30 am worship, everyone is invited to a time of fellowship in the Social Hall, southward through the campus and over the little arched bridge. Refreshments are provided. Come on over, bring a friend, and share
in the fellowship!
For anyone who is hearing impaired, or if you need volume enhancement, hearing assistance is available. Please notify an usher if you would like the use of a headset.
WORSHIP CDS AVAILABLE
Cd's of the 10:30 service, as well as most of the seasonal services, may be obtained for $1.00 each by completing the form in the Narthex. Follow the instructions on the small manila envelopes in the acrylic holder. In most cases they may be picked up the following Sunday in the church office.
