MISSION EMPHASIS FOR OCTOBER: HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS
Every year RUMC sponsors families through the Salvation Army's Holiday Food Basket Ministry by providing low-income families with the ingredients to make plentiful Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Along with the food donations, we also provide each child within our sponsored families new clothing and toys for Christmas. Again this year, we will reach for the God-sized goal of serving 50 families in our community through this ministry. Your contributions are greatly appreciated for this mission.
WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY
Today is World Communion Sunday. This is a Church-wide Special Sunday of the United Methodist Church. Your generous gifts will support: World Communion Scholarship, administered by the General Board of Global Ministries (with at least ˝ of the annual amount for ministries beyond the United States): and Ethnic Scholarships and In-Service Training programs related to the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
FOOD FOR THE MONTH
The Missions Committee has designated canned vegetables. as the item of the month for October. Other items such as: peanut butter, jelly, crackers, macaroni & cheese, canned vegetables and tuna are always welcome. Please place your items in the blue bucket in the Narthex, and they will be taken to the Living Bread Ministry food mission.
Relay for Life WRAPS UP TODAY
Yesterday at 9 am, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life kicked off
at the Cerro Coso College track with a survivor and caretaker honorary lap. We
had 57 church members walk at least an hour during the 24-hour event, along
with 28 youth who spent the night on the track with Amy and Al Bradford. Way to
go TEAM UNITED!
NEXT SUNDAY IS CONFIRMATION SUNDAY
Over the last 7 weeks, Pastor Rich and Amy have been working with an awesome class of 12 young persons, using the theme "Called to Follow Jesus." The class members are now prepared to take their vow of Christian discipleship and join our church as full members with the laying on of hands. Confirmation will take place at the 10:30 service only. There will be a special refeshment time in the Social Hall following the 10:30 service.
Guatemala Mission Potluck
Next Sunday, October 9 at 6:00 pm in the Social Hall, come, listen and experience how God is working in Guatemala. Would you like to experience how God can use you? Terry Ratcliff will be giving a presentation about her mission trip to Guatemala this past July.
